As the title suggests, this concert features music with something to say about the lives we’re leading now: pieces by leading and emerging composers like David Lang, Ēriks Ešenvalds, Wiecher Mandemaker and Frieda Gustavs confront contemporary reality head on.

In the stunningly theatrical setting of Haarlem’s Sint Bavokerk we reflect on current trends in the world and the all-important the calming presence of singing and human voices within it. Guest soloists bind the pieces together in short - sometimes improvised - interludes. We also step back in time through works by Jan Pieterszoon Sweelinck, Hendrik Andriessen and Charles Ives. To close This Turning World the Laurens Collegium and Consensus Vocalis join forces for Ēriks Ešenvalds’ haunting Earth teach me quiet.
