Night and Nature
The pure sound of human voices, in the middle of nature, on a beautiful summer night. This is what makes Woodbirds so special. Tonight we’re proud to present the Laurens Collegium from Rotterdam. This young, professional chamber choir, led by conductor Wiecher Mandemaker, has become one of the country’s most sought-after professional choirs in recent years. The Collegium performs frequently in the Netherlands’ best-known halls, like the Concertgebouw and Tivoli Vredenburg (but is perhaps best heard at home in the Doelen or Laurenskerk in Rotterdam!)
In Birds of Paradise, the Laurens Collegium share their love of the natural world with you. Many poets and composers drew inspiration from nature: mountains, forests and the sea all play a part in their creations and imaginations Birds have also inspired artists since time immemorial. We envy their freedom, we imitate their flight, we enjoy their song.
The Collegium singers take you on a quest through sound, night and nature. A unique experience, pristine a cappella singing as day slowly fades into night.
Comfort tip: seating in the Woodbirds tent is on wooden benches. Bring a pillow, blanket or extra sweater for extra comfort if you wish! Some insect repellent might also help. If it rains, the performance will be inside the tent.
